Special Issue on Carbon Neutrality in Coal-based Industry

Scope

This special issue aims to invite high quality contributions. This special issue reviews recent advances in basic research and technological development in the fields of advanced coal thermal conversion, artificial intelligence (AI) application in process optimizations in coal-based industry, and carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) to strive for carbon neutrality. Advanced coal combustion technologies include large-capacity, high-parameter advanced ultra-supercritical boiler, co-combustion of coal mixed with biomass, chemical looping combustion, etc. (but not limited to):

  1. Advanced coal combustion routes.
  2. Coal gasification.
  3. Coal direct/indirect liquefaction.
  4. Coal grading utilization.
  5. Coal integrated utilization coupling with other renewable energy technologies (e.g. biomass energy, solar energy, wind energy, and ocean energy).
  6. Coal to low carbon and carbon neutral fuels (e.g. hydrogen, hydrogen-enrich syngas and ammonia).
  7. Coal-derived fuel cells for electricity generation and/or chemical products.
  8. Mass and energy balance of different coal conversion routes.
  9. Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Smart/Big data analysis of different coal conversion routes.
  10. Assessment of environmental impacts, risk mitigation, and socio-techno-economic feasibility of different coal conversion routes.
  11. Carbon capture, utilization and storage.
